Representative Cricket

Under BEARS zone there are 2 district associations:

  1. EDJCA – manages the U-9 to U-12 competition for Bulimba, Carina, Holland Park, Mansfield, Villanova and Wynnum Manly DCC Juniors; and
  2. Redlands Cricket Inc (RCI) – manages the U-10 to U-12 competition for Alexandra Hills, Cleveland-Thornlands, Muddies, Ormiston College,Redland Sharks and Wellington Point.

BEARS direcly runs the U-13 to U-17 competition across all 12 clubs from EDJCA and Redlands.

BEARS selects teams to represent our Zone in:

  • U-12 State Carnival;
  • U-13 State Carnival;
  • U-13 Development Carnival;
  • U-14 State Carnival;
  • U-14 Development Carnival;
  • U-15 State Carnival;
  • U-15/U-16 Combined Development Carnival;
  • U-16 State Carnival.

EDJCA selects teams to represent our District in:

  • U-12 Development Carnival – Ian Healy Cup;
  • U-12 SEQC 20/20 Carnival;
  • U-12 Margaret Torry Shield.

EDJCA U-12 Rep Squad

EDJCA participates in representative cricket for U-12’s in

  • Sunday Practice Matches v other Development and State Carnival Teams in November
  • Ian Healy Cup U-12 Development Carnival in January;
  • SEQC 20/20 Carnival in February; and
  • Margaret Torry Shield held in March

Ian Healy U-12 Cup Development Carnival is held each January on the north side of Brisbane. EDJCA has been entering 2 squads in this tournament chosen from trials in October, and with good success of late having won the cup 3 times and been runners up in the last 7 seasons.

This is a fantastic tournament providing a low impact and cost-effective entry for 11 year olds into rep cricket with 1 day matches played in Brisbane. Players return home each day.

SEQC 20/20 Carnival is held on 3 Sundays in February. Two T20’s are played each day against development teams from SEQC region – Beaudesert, Beenleigh, Ipswich, Tweed Heads, Redlands.

Margaret Torry Shield team is 1 team chosen from the EDJCA U-12 Rep squad players. This competition is run post-Christmas against Redlands.

Cost for players selected for the EDJCA U-12 Rep squad is $200. Players each receive a rep shirt, cap and hat and entry to the Ian Healy carnival and Margaret Torry shield, and participate in several training matches against other regional rep teams and each other.

U-12 Selection Trials

A combined trial is held each October for U-12 Players to select the BEARS U-12 State Carnival Squad, two EDJCA U-12 Rep Squads and the Redlands U-12 Development Squad.

The squads are selected by a panel of selectors from trials organised by the EDJCA Head Coach and is based on:performance, technique, attitude and behaviour at trials in October for players nominated by their club.

EDJCA Developing Players Squad

Developing Players Squad : EDJCA also holds a developing players programme in September. There is no charge for players selected for this squad.

All players for EDJCA rep trials and developing player squads must be nominated by their clubs.

Ray Weier U14 and Shane Watson U15 – District Cricket Club Squads

SE QLD’s district (senior) clubs run teams for elite U-15 to U-16 players as part of the pathway to senior grade cricket. EDJCA and Redlands Inc. junior clubs are invited to submit players to their zone’s respective senior district clubs (Wynnum DCC and Redlands Tigers) to trial for selection in squads to play in the following competitions:

  • U14 – Ray Weier competition;
  • U15 – Shane Watson competition.

These U14 and U15 elite players play under and are coached by their zone’s senior district club and play on Sundays in the Ray Weier and Shane Watson competitions. These Sunday matches are in addition to the players normal junior club matches on Saturdays.

BEARS Representative Cricket

BEARS enters teams in the State Carnivals for U-12, U-13, U-14 and U-15 held in December each year, and in theDevelopment Carnivals held in December (U-15/16) and January (U-13 and U-14). These carnivals are held on rotation around the state so there can be considerable travel, accommodation/billetting costs around $1300 for intrastate and $800 for matches played in Brisbane as players do not return home after each match. Costs are uniform across all teams from all regions for each carnival (cost equalisation).

The U-12, U-13 and U-14 BEARS squads are chosen from trials in October and a new player talent identification days in July and October. The U-15 and U-16 squads are chosen from the Ray Weir and Shane Watson players from EDJCA clubs and Redlands clubs.

BEARS also runs a Regional Cricket Program (RCP) for developing U-12, U-13 and U-14 players.

All players for RCP, trials and new player days must be nominated by their clubs.

NOTE : For all age grades in all rep programmes, players chosen to trial and represent must be within that age – ie. playing up an age grade at rep level is not permitted by BEARS nor EDJCA, although at club level players may play up an age grade or two as their capability permits (refer club policy). For U-12 Ian Healy Cup, players also cannot be already in another rep squad such as Met East or State Carnival.
